On Tuesday 22nd November 2016, we were privileged to be able to welcome Sir Bobby Charlton and his wife Lady Norma Charlton to Dean Trust Ardwick to officially open the school and launch the school’s partnership with Manchester United Foundation. Sir Bobby, a Manchester United legend also known as one of the greatest midfielders of all time and an essential member of the England team who won the World Cup in 1966, met with pupils, staff and other guests to hear about their fantastic new school and its state of the art facilities.
The school, which opened this September, is located at the heart of the Ardwick community allowing its pupils to walk to a local secondary school but also providing residents with the ability to access its community facilities without the need to travel across Manchester.
Pupils were able to demonstrate their performing arts skills in the form of contemporary and traditional dance routines, sports demonstrations as well as a very special poem written and performed by a Year 7 pupil especially for Sir Bobby. The event was a great success and a celebration for all of those involved, who contributed to such a successful project which will serve the local community for many years to come.’
